Summary of Position: The Capability Director is accountable to the Managing Director for ensuring that Engage Technical Solutions Ltd maintains the competence, capability, capacity and professional standards required to deliver current contracts and support sustainable growth.
The role provides enterprise-wide leadership of organisational capability across Engineering, Project, Programme and Portfolio Management (P3M), and Digital pillars. It is responsible for maintaining the Knowledge, Skills and Experience (KSE) framework, professional development pathways, and capability maturity required to support delivery and future growth.
The role also holds structural responsibility for the development and positioning of Engage capability within the Defence Maritime and Defence Nuclear Enterprise sectors, ensuring alignment between organisational capability, business development strategy and market demand.
The Capability Director operates as a statutory Director of the company and contributes to Board governance, corporate risk management and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Capability and Workforce Development
• Maintain an accurate and proportionate view of organisational capability maturity, capacity and associated risks.
• Lead workforce capability planning, ensuring sufficient depth, scalability and resilience to support delivery and growth.
• Identify capability gaps, fragility risks and future skill requirements aligned to business strategy.
• Enable recruitment, upskilling and partnering actions aligned to forecast demand.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience (KSE) Governance
• Own and govern the organisational Knowledge, Skills and Experience framework and consultant grading model.
• Ensure the framework accurately reflects capability maturity across Engineering, P3M and Digital pillars.
• Maintain visibility of organisational capability depth and Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP).
Professional Development and Standards
• Oversee professional development pathways, accreditation and professional registration.
• Sustain professional and technical standards consistent with ISO 9001 and relevant regulatory expectations.
• Support structured career conversations and employee development across the organisation.
Service Offering and Technical Capability Development
• Maintain coherence and maturity across capability service offerings.
• Provide technical input into bids, proposals and client positioning where capability credibility is required.
• Ensure capability development aligns with market opportunities and organisational strategy.
Sector Capability and Business Development
• Develop client-facing service offerings that address current and forecast customer requirements.
• Lead capability development and positioning within the Defence Maritime and Defence Nuclear Enterprise sectors.
• Support sector growth by aligning internal capability development with market demand and opportunity pipelines.
• Provide technical credibility in client and partner engagements where required.
Cross-Pillar Governance
• Provide arbitration where capability boundaries or priorities conflict across pillars.
• Ensure coherent capability development across Engineering, P3M and Digital disciplines.
Corporate Governance
• Contribute to Board governance and fulfil statutory Director responsibilities under company law.
• Support corporate risk management, particularly capability, workforce and sector concentration risks.
• Contribute to annual business planning, financial forecasting and capability investment planning.
• Oversee capability-related audit observations and improvement actions.
Delivery and Market Awareness
• Undertake limited client-facing delivery activity where appropriate to maintain technical credibility and market awareness.
